We are grateful for all the ways our school community supports the children at Grafton Elementary School.  For those looking for a way to contribute to our programs, we offer the following lists of suggestions:

Our Wish List
  • an apartment-size stackable washer and dryer for the nurse and/or plumbing services for installing it
  • reams of plain or color copier paper
  • plastic sleds for outside play in the winter
  • snow shoes for children and young teens
  • socks, underthings, and sweatpants for the nurse's office--all sizes appreciated, but we especially need the middle sizes right now--ages 8-10
  • magazine subscriptions for the library (we have not been able to renew them this year because of the cut to our library budget).  See Mandy Walsh.
Volunteer Opportunities
  • After school tutors for enrichment activities in the arts, active games and sports, and academic support.  We are especially seeking computer-savvy community members to introduce our students to 21st century skills . . . and folks who can teach our students traditional arts and skills (cooking, sewing, woodworking, crafts)
  • Knowledgeable volunteers who can help us winterize the Athens School House.
  • Community Buddies--A community member for each class who becomes their "buddy" for the year--someone whom they can invite to their special performances, bring on a field trip, or correspond with via snail mail or the internet.  He or she may even become a regular visitor to the classroom for reading time or morning meeting.  Please contact Roberta Martin if you would like to be matched with a class.
  • We can also offer a small stipend to folks willing to run Math Club, a book club, or a writing group for motivated students.  The initial commitment is to six weeks, but it can be an ongoing group.
Giving
  • Library Fund--Our budget for new library books was eliminated last year.  A gift to fund one special book or the general collection would be greatly appreciated and enjoyed by everyone who uses the library.
  • After School Programs--Our very popular after school program is made possible entirely through gifts, restricted grant funds, and volunteers who offer their time and talents.  We are currently seeking funding for programs in the areas of wellness (health and physical activity), technology, science and engineering, and history.
Free Money for our School
  • Send in your used ink cartridges, cell phones, digital cameras, and other electronics.  We can recycle these for cash.  Check back here for a list of specific items, or see the flyer posted in the school entryway.
  • Save your Campbell's Soup Labels and Boxtops for Education, then bring them to school and put them in the boxes in the front hall.  Our school gets cash or credit toward items we need.  Check back here soon for a list of products.
  • If you shop at Target, let them know you want to contribute to Grafton Elementary School through their Red Card program.  A portion of your purchase will come to the school.
  • Gift card orders (Scrip) are available at the end of the month.  Purchase a gift card at face value and a portion of the proceeds come to the school.

Please drop by the school, call us at 843-2495 or email Beth Ann Drinker at bdrinke at wnesu.net.
Thank you!
